Product Differentiation at Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival, along with many other brands, try to differentiate themselves within the industry they reside. Carnival has taken many steps to differentiate their experiences and their products. One of the major differentiation is the Carnival funnel. Everyone can tell which one is a Carnival ship due to the funnel shape on top of the ship. See the image below.

Carnival Dream with funnel
Carnival prides itself on the funnel of the ship. No matter where you go, you can tell which is a Carnival ship from far away with the large Y-shaped funnel on top of the ship. This is the main product feature that Carnival tries to exhibit as most cruises hold the same thing. All cruises have restaurants, bars, movies, entertainment, and so much more. While all are a little bit different, they all have similar products. Another way Carnival differentiates its product is the location. Carnival is the cruise line that owns the most ships that do Caribbean voyages. Carnival also is the leading cruise line in availability. 82% of America can get to a Carnival Cruise within 5 hours driving. That is a huge feat for availability. Also, travelers wants to explore exotic spaces. With Carnival leading the amount of cruises to the Caribbean, they offer so many opportunities for cruisers to see things they haven't seen before or do things such as snorkel in coral reefs for the first time.
Another way Carnival stands out is reputation. While Carnival ships aren't the nicest, their crews and staff are the best for families. Cruise directors are almost larger than life personalities that people fall in love with. This isn't because they're funny. It's because they become friends with people on board. All staff are known as extremely friendly, leaving a great impression for people once they leave. While other cruise ships are nicer, the family-fun atmosphere is what sets Carnival apart to families that cruise.
